People who do their most of the typing in browser should be missing the auto correct feature like word processing softwares. With a help of an extension for chrome called ezAutoCorrect you can auto correct in chrome for Gmail. (Well mostly.)
Auto correction feature in MS Word is like a saviour. It works nearly perfect. So is the case with other word processors like Pages. But our browsers lack this saviour feature. At most we can do is enable spell checker which will underline the wrong spelled words but not auto correct them. Or we can ask google for suggestions for the wrongly spelled words.

ENABLE AUTO CORRECT IN GOOGLE CHROME

However in Google chrome there is a built in feature in Google chrome that lets its users to use the auto correct feature. Unfortunately this is disabled by default.
enable auto correct in chromeTo enable it go to chrome://flagsand scroll down until where you find Enable Automatic Spelling Correction. Mac OS users are out of luck though.

USE AUTO CORRECT FEATURE FOR GMAIL IN CHROME

A dedicated Google chrome extension called ezAutoCorrect can be used as auto correct feature while typing your mails in Gmail. Go to Google Webstore to download this extension and once enabled open Gmail and start typing your mails with less typo errors.
Switch Back to Old Gmail Compose WindowsI am not sure if it works with the Gmail new compose window, but in the old compose window it works absolutely. However you can always switch back to old compose window. See screenshot.
The extension ezAutocorrect gives you options to add even more functions. Go to settings — Extension and ezAutoCorrect settings. You can find options to enable settings like automatically capitalise after a full stop. And replace dots with double spaces (like Blackberry).
You can also add more entries to the substitution list based on your preferences.
